Michael Jackson doctor Conrad Murray asks for jail release

Conrad Murray has asked a judge to release him from jail pending an appeal for the involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson.

The former physician was given a four year sentence last November after being found guilty of helping cause Jackson's death in June 2009.

Murray has now filed legal documents insisting that he has legitimate grounds to appeal his conviction, with his lawyer noting that the 58-year-old "has exhausted virtually all of his available resources".

TMZ says the basis for Murray's appeal is the "improper exclusion of defense evidence and witnesses that resulted in violating the defendant's State and constitutional rights to due process, to present a defense and to the effective assistance of counsel."

Murray is allegedly asking to be released with no bail and has volunteered to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet.

He is planning to stay with Nicole Alvarez, the mother of his 2-year-old son, and will seek employment to support them.

In addition, Murray is reportedly attempting to prove that Jackson was partly responsible for causing his death. Doing so would deny the popstar's family millions of dollars in restitution.
