'Modern Family' leads SAG Award TV nominees










Modern Family has picked up five nominations for the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The ABC show was nominated in the 'Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series' category, while cast members Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen were all recognized individually.

The other series fighting it out in the comedy category are 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Glee and The Office.

Meanwhile, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Game of Thrones and The Good Wife are all nominated in the drama category.

Burrell and Stonestreet will face off against 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin, former Office star Steve Carell and Two and a Half Men's Jon Cryer, while Vergara and Bowen will have to fight it out with Nurse Jackie's Edie Falco, 30 Rock star Tina Fey and Hot in Cleveland cast member Betty White.

In the individual drama categories, Suits star Patrick J Adams is nominated alongside Boardwalk Empire lead Steve Buscemi, Friday Night Lights actor Kyle Chandler, Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston and Dexter star Michael C Hall.

Meanwhile, the female shortlist includes Harry's Law star Kathy Bates, Damages actress Glenn Close, American Horror Story cast member Jessica Lange, The Good Wife's lead Julianna Margulies and The Closer's Kyra Sedgwick.

Elsewhere, British actresses Maggie Smith and Emily Watson picked up nods in the 'Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries' for their roles in Downton Abbey and Appropriate Adult respectively, while Betty White picked up a second nomination for Hallmark Hall of Fame: The Lost Valentine.

They are joined by Diane Lane from Cinema Verite and Kate Winslet for her role in Mildred Pierce.
In the male 'Television Movie or Miniseries' category, the fight will be between Thurgood's Laurence Fishburne, Too Big To Fail stars Paul Giamatti and James Woods, Greg Kinnear from The Kennedys and Mildred Pierce actor Guy Pearce.

The 18th Screen Actors Guild Awards will be held in Los Angeles on January 29.
