Kanye West was 'on the brink of suicide after mother's death'

Kanye West has said that he was on the brink of suicide following his mother's death in 2007.

While performing in Los Angeles last night (December 12), the rapper revealed that he fell into a deep depression after losing his mother in November 2007, Hollyscoop reports.

West confessed that he never took the time to grieve properly in the wake of her passing, adding that it wasn't until the Taylor Swift incident at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards - in which the rapper interrupted Swift during her acceptance speech for 'Best Female Video' - that he realized he needed help.

The rapper went on to encourage his audience to aspire to greatness.

"People tell you to always be humble, humble, humble, [but] when's the last time anyone told you to be amazing, great, or awesome?" West told the crowd.

Last week, Jay-Z revealed that he could return to the studios with West to record a follow-up to their collaborative album Watch the Throne.

Earlier this month, West dedicated his Chicago show to his late mother, who died of complications from cosmetic surgery.
