The UK Chart Show Chart Hopeful:
Emeli Sandé - Next To Me

We wouldn't blame Emeli Sandé for feeling a little pressured of late. Winning a Brit Award best on your potential and being tipped for huge success in 2012 before releasing your debut album is probably a humbling, but daunting prospect. With her last single 'Daddy' failing to do the business chart-wise, can her latest chart assault get her back on track and live up to the hype she's been burdened with?

"You won't find him trying to chase the devil/ For money, fame, for power, out of grief," Sandé insists of her morally righteous right-hand man over head-nodding beats and gospel-choir harmonies. Whether this mysterious entity is a lover, her faith or the music itself is never clarified, but one thing is for certain; if it inspires Sandé to write music of this standard, then her claims of perfection are rightly justified.

Tony Bennett speaks on duet with Carrie Underwood at Grammys 2012

Tony Bennett has spoken out about his performance with Carrie Underwood at the Grammys tomorrow night (February 12).

The pair were announced this week to be among the performers at the 54th awards ceremony.

The duo will perform a version of the standard 'It Had To Be You', with Underwood describing the 85-year-old singer as "America's most enduring artist".

Tony Bennett performed at the very first Grammy Awards in 1959, and he revealed that he still enjoys the event.

"I've been on every single one that we've had through the years," he told The AP. "And what I love about it, this is the only place where all the performers get together in one weekend, and it's so great to see old friends and new guys that are coming up."

Speaking about Carrie Underwood's talents, he added: "She's beautiful and she sings great and she's so popular. It's just a wonderful experience to be on the show."

The Grammy Awards will see a unique group performance by nominees Chris Brown, Deadmau5, Foo Fighters, David Guetta and Lil Wayne during the evening.

Simon Cowell on Whitney Houston: 'She was a superstar, legendary diva'

Simon Cowell has said that Whitney Houston's death is a "massive" loss to the music industry.

Speaking shortly after news of the late singer's passing broke from Los Angeles, the X Factor creator told LBC 97.3 that Houston's death was "really, really, really horrible".

"There's always moments in your life which are horrible things to remember," Cowell said. "The day John Lennon died, or Elvis Presley, and recently Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse. And now Whitney.

"It was a [complete shock], because I knew quite a few people who have worked with her over the years and we all knew that she had issues. I last met her when she came on X Factor when she was in England doing her comeback album, and you could sense at the time that there were still a few problems."

He continued: "But she was a delight to work with on the day; she was very professional, she was kind to everyone around her. She probably wasn't altogether there, but it was still Whitney Houston - and you know that you're in the presence of a legend and I'll never forget that day."

Describing the 48-year-old as a "true superstar, legendary diva", Cowell said that there was a "disturbing" pattern in the recent losses of Jackson, Winehouse and Houston.

"You just wanted these people to live a normal life and to enjoy the rest of their life. They were right at the top. The irony with all of them is that they were all trying to make a big comeback - and something prevented that happening," he said. "That in itself is tragic, it really is."

With the Grammy Awards taking place in Los Angeles later tonight (February 12), Cowell said that he expected the ceremony to "fondly" honor the 'I Will Always Love You' star.

"A lot of the people who were going to be getting awards at The Grammys; they owe a lot of their success to Whitney. She was a trailblazer," he said. "She proved that a solo female artist can become, and she did become, one of the biggest stars in the world.

"I'm absolutely certain her influence has rubbed off on a lot of the Grammy nominees who will be there over the next night or so."

Meanwhile, the music mogul also confirmed reports that Houston was under consideration for a judging role on the second season of The X Factor USA.

"The irony is, is that we have a meeting about The X Factor on Monday and Tuesday - and she was going to be one of the names we would be discussing," he explained. "I think we would have at least spoken, if not met. I did get on very well with her when she came on our show in London, and was such a huge fan.

"I thought, you know, if I could work with her on this show, and she got the chance to mentor some of our contestants, it would have been incredible."

Whitney Houston using prescription drug Xanax at time of death?

Whitney Houston was using prescription drug Xanax at the time of her death, according to a new report.

The 'One Moment In Time' star was found dead in her room at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles yesterday (February 11). Attempts to revive the singer failed, with Houston being pronounced dead at 3.55pm EST.

Following early reports that the 48-year-old was found in her bathtub, TMZ quotes family sources as confirming that Houston was using the drug, which is most commonly used to treat panic and anxiety disorders.

The site also claims that members of Houston's team had become concerned when the singer had been in the bathroom for over an hour, prior to getting ready to attend Clive Davis's pre-Grammy party in the hotel.

Sources allegedly reveal that a female hairdresser went into the bathroom to check on the star, who is said to have been found with her head below the water. One of two bodyguards present reportedly pulled her from the tub, before emergency services arrived on the scene.

Beverly Hills Police Lieutenant Mark Rosen has said that there is "no obvious evidence of foul play or cause of death", adding: "An attempt was made to resuscitate, to no avail."

The Grammy Awards will pay tribute to Houston tonight, with a special performance led by Jennifer Hudson.

'Dark Knight Rises' will be a tearjerker, says Gary Oldman

Gary Oldman has promised fans that The Dark Knight Rises will be "emotional".

The British actor - who plays Commissioner Jim Gordon in the Christopher Nolan Batman series - explained at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York that the third and final film will contain a particularly powerful scene featuring Michael Caine (Alfred Pennyworth).

"There's an emotional scene coming up in the next Batman, which I am obviously, absolutely sworn to secrecy about," he said. "They would kill me. Well, I'd do the press junket and then they'd kill me.

"Watching Michael Caine work, as Alfred, was a great lesson for me. Just focus, concentration. He had this emotional scene. I'm kidding you not. It was tears and the whole thing."

Oldman won his first acting award for an individual performance in over two decades for his role in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy earlier this month.

The Dark Knight Rises will arrive at cinemas on July 20, 2012.

Bruce Springsteen to open Grammys 2012 with new single

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will open the 54th Grammy Awards with his new single.

The 20-time Grammy winner will perform 'We Take Care of Our Own' from his latest album Wrecking Ball at the awards ceremony tomorrow night (February 12), reports Access Hollywood.

Adele had previously been rumored to open the event, but will still perform during the evening at some point. The British singer is nominated for six prizes at the ceremony.

Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown, Paul McCartney and The Beach Boys are among the other performers, while Chris Brown, Deadmau5, Foo Fighters, David Guetta and Lil Wayne will all perform together.

The 54th annual Grammy Awards air at 7pm on Sunday on CBS.

Usher ex-wife wants $50k for child custody battle legal fees

Usher's ex-wife has asked for $50,000 to cover legal fees accrued by the custody battle for their two children.

Tameka Raymond, whose divorce from Usher was finalized in November 2009, requested $15,000 for her lawyer's fees plus $35,000 in other costs, according to TMZ.

The further costs reportedly are for hiring a private investigator, maintenance of expert witnesses, obtaining out-of-state testimonies and canceling her Saks 5th Avenue credit card.

The 40-year-old stylist is trying to strip the performer from having joint custody of Usher Raymond V, 4, and Naviviyd Eli, 3.

In December, she demanded that Usher take a drugs test because she was worried he was abusing substances around their children.

The R&B star filed for divorce in June 2009 after less than two years of marriage, claiming irreconcilable differences and that the couple hadn't lived together in their Atlanta home for a year.
